Frequently Asked Questions

Are you confused with website technobabble? not sure if you need an SSL to find the HTTP on your SEO? This quick guide to website terminology will help explain things in simple terms

Domain Name ( URL )

This is the name that people will type into the address bar of their browser to find you “www.mywebsite.co.uk” (also known as a URL), it pays to keep the domain name short so people will remember it. You have to register your domain name before we can build your website, this is something that you can do yourself or we can register one on your behalf.

Hosting

Basically hosting is the process of renting or buying space to house a website on the internet. This is where all your website files, images, codes, certificates and databases are stored online and served to the viewer when they access your site. As hosting can be quite complicated we offer our customers a “managed” hosting plan which means that we look after all of the backend techie stuff that is required to keep your website running smoothly.

SSL “Secure Socket Layer”

This is the little padlock that appears at the top of your browser when you visit a website, it tells people that your site is secure and can be trusted. It comes in the form of a renewable certificate that is used to secure your website. Many hosting companies charge an additional fee for these certificates, but if you have one of our managed hosting packages then the cost is included in your plan.

SEO “Search Engine Optimisation”

We will optimise your website to get it found by search engines, but no one can guarantee that your site will make the first page on Google. This is because there are only so many keywords that can be used to describe your business (and most of the popular ones are well used in paid for rankings). We can’t guarantee that your site will always make the first page on Google, but we will try our best to optimise your website to get it as high as we possibly can without adding to your costs.

HTTP & HTTPS

HTTP stands for HyperText Transfer Protocol while HTTPS stands for HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure, (remember the little padlock). All of our hosted websites are setup using HTTPS as standard and the security protocols set up on our servers force users from a http web address to the more secure https website.

Blog

A blog (a shortened version of “weblog”) is an online journal or informational page on your website, it displays what are known as “Posts” in reverse chronological order, with the latest post appearing at the top. Blogs keep your website active and are great for SEO, engagement and relationship building. Blog posts can be linked in social media groups or broken down and repurposed for newsletters and social media posts.

QR Code

A QR or “Quick Response” code is a type of barcode that can be read easily by a digital device (such as a mobile phone or scanner) and which stores information as a series of pixels in a square-shaped grid. The data stored in a QR code can include website URLs, phone numbers, or up to 4,000 characters of text.

How easy is it for us to manage our website once you hand it over?

We will give you a quick tutorial on the basics of looking after your website, how to insert posts, add/edit content on pages and uploading images, this is done by remote access through “TeamViewer” so you can see what to do live on your own screen and carry out some simple tasks under our tutorage. the session usually takes an hour to an hour and a half, after which we can do a refresher if required.

We try to keep things simple for users by using the “Three P’s” to remind clients that if they stick to Pages, Posts and Pictures then they shouldn’t inadvertently break anything when updating their site.

When all you need is a simple website that is fast loading and engages the customer quickly.
